PRESENTING OUR INSTRUCTORS
Marilee Schumann has a Master of Fine Arts degree in Sculpture from the University of Maryland and currently teaches ceramics at Washington College, Chestertown, where she did her undergraduate studies. Functional and decorative ceramic vessels with contemporary style and elegant glazes are a specialty, although her work encompasses cast metal, mixed media constructions and even rustic furniture. Marilee has exhibited widely, including at Artworks, and has received numerous awards for her art. Her current work and additional information can be found at: www.marileeschumannart.com.
Gia Campana earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Sculpture from Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia. In addition to local exhibits and sales she creates commissioned work for private clients. She has taught pottery and sculpture classes at Artworks and other Kent County venues and has been a leader in developing Artworks Clay Studio. Gia finds clay irresistible and imparts her love of the medium to students as she helps them transform their ideas into works of art.
Joan Reed studied at Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, and the University of Delaware. Intending a career in fashion design, she strayed into the clay studio and never looked back. Her enjoyment of gardening led to the creation of her signature outdoor pottery --- birdhouses, birdbaths and sundials. Joan helped found Artworks’ original Clay Studio and has been a regular on our teaching staff. Her imaginative pottery and sculpture are frequently exhibited and are for sale in Artworks Gift Shop.
Donna Hickman has been doing pottery for 35 years. She started with a
community course in Chicago and immediately bought a potter’s wheel to
work at home. She has taught children’s after school classes for the
Montgomery County Department of Recreation, taught individuals and
children at home, and has participated in Pottery Clubs (Montgomery
Potters and the Virginia-based Clay Connection) and many craft sales/fairs in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland, particularly on the Eastern Shore.
Sarah Lyle has been involved with Artworks since its inception. She attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and has a degree in Art Education from Washington College. Her recent teaching experience in the community includes projects in many local schools, classes for Artworks, Imagination Alley, and private lessons.
Sue Stockman of St. Michaels, MD, exhibits her jewelry, mosaics, and sculpture throughout the United States and her pieces reside in collections worldwide. Her popular classes and workshops encourage personal creativity and growth on many levels. Sue has taught several mosaics workshops at Artworks.
Yoshi Fujii Visiting International Fellowship Instructor artist-resident at Baltimore Clayworks as well as the city of Baltimore, is the 2008–09 Lormina Salter Fellow. Yoshi received his B.F.A from University of Southern Mississippi in 2002 and his M.F.A. from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2008. His interest is in wheel-thrown porcelain utilitarian and sculptural work. His current work and additional information is at: www.yoshifujii.com
JoLecia Crowe From her early pencil portraits and sketches to her forays
into photography, clothing design and construction, and now in her
sculpture and art jewelry, JoLecia has shown a natural gift for things artistic since she was old enough to hold a pencil. She began sculpting in paper and polymer clay over 15 years ago and is most known for her richly detailed custom elves and cake toppers.
