The Artworks Gallery mounts a new exhibit each month. An opening party is held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. the first Friday of the month as part of the town's "First Friday" celebration. Persons interested in curating an exhibit are encouraged to call Artworks. Guidelines for curators are available at the office.

Creative Designs in Mosaics, Paint and Pottery
Artworks celebrates the beauty of both traditional and contemporary clay and mosaic work represented by several of Artworks’ skilled and talented Clay Studio instructors.

This show features an eclectic selection of functional and decorative pieces demonstrating the diversity and artistic creativity that can be coaxed from mosaics and ceramics. New work from noted local and regional artists will be shown, including Jen Wagner, Susan Stockman, Kay Jones, and Megan Van Wagoner, all of whom will be giving workshops at Artworks Clay Studio in the near future.

In addition, Artworks is pleased to show paintings by inte
rnational award-winning painter, Lydia Schut. Schut was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and, following completion of medical school there, moved to the U.S. Schut has contributed her abstracts and portraits to many institutions, and has donated several pieces for this show to raise money for Shared Opportunity Services in Chestertown and The Arts at Still Pond Station in Worton.

The gallery show opens on First Friday, September 3, with a reception from 5-8 p.m., the public is also invited to an informal discussion at 6 p.m. on the challenges in making functional pottery that works. Come see the garden pottery, tea bowls, teapots and participate in a free drawing for a dish made by local potter Linda Henselman.

Works in Wood
Bowls, boxes and beyond - all manner of objects, functional furniture, and turned objects as well as sculpture will be on display this month. Come see work from your favorite regional artists from previous shows and join us in welcoming new artists.

Studio Tour Show
Paintings and crafts of artists represented in the Studio Tour, a free, self-guided tour of studios and art in the Chestertown area, will be on display in our gallery this month. The Studio Tour falls on the last weekend in October and the first weekend in November, so save the date!

Holiday Gift Shop Show
Our Ninth Annual Holiday Gift Shop Show fills our gallery and shop with one-of-a-kind gifts made by local artists including knitted items, jewelry, photography, weavings, wood objects, and paintings.  There’s something for everyone.
